What is the Mojowijo?

The winner may be required to assist with promotional photographs and other marketing requirements. There is no monetary prize but the winner will receive Sex Toys and Lingerie on an ad hoc basis to review and keep.

To enter Review Idol simply write a review of a sex toy (either new or old) or the reasons why you want to become a Sex Toy Reviewer and email it to Voluptasse@virginmedia.com. Photographs may also be included and previously used reviews can also be sent.

There is no limit to experience and new and experienced reviewers are all welcome to apply for entry to the competition.

The closing date for entries is 11th April 2013 and the contestants will be announced on the 28th April 2013.

Contestants will be notified of their acceptance by email and the first item will be sent upon receipt of a valid postal address.

Late Reviews will not be admitted and will be deemed as a non-submission.

Non-submissions will result in disqualification.

Each review will be judged on originality, accuracy and content and the winner of each round will be picked by members of the public who comment underneath their favourite review. The review with the least votes will not continue onto the next round but will be entered into our Voluptasse Hall of Fame.

Every round will feature an experienced reviewer as a guest judge who will offer constructive criticism, encouragement and support to each contestant.

There will be two resident panel Judges – The award winning Blogger, Writer and Sex Toy Reviewer – The Cara Sutra and Melissa MacFarlane, the owner of Voluptasse.

A Personal Story...

So I promised to keep you updated about the day to day running of Voluptasse. This week I've had some interesting developments with regards to the work that Voluptasse does to combat drug related violence in my local area, focusing in particular on knife crime and domestic violence.

Awareness of knife crime is of particular importance because of my older brother Marvin, who was sadly stabbed and killed in Todmorden in February 2002. Because I work with the community quite a lot with my refuge work and hospice events I wanted to use those connections to reach out to the public and tell them my story.

I will be working with the Police and local Press to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying knives and the consequences of impaired judgment through drugs and alcohol. I will be working with young offenders and also young people who have been carrying knives to talk to them about the human consequences of knife crime. Its not just about Prison, one moment of madness affects so many people.

I will be speaking at my first school on the 7th February and really hope that I manage to make an impression on the kids there. If just one life is saved then it would all be worth it.

So.... here's my story. It isn't a pretty one but here it is.

My name is Melissa MacFarlane and I am here to talk to you about my brother Marvin Whitehead.

First of all let me tell you a little about Marvin…

Marvin and I grew up in a very large family with three other brothers and two other sisters, we were brought up by our Dad who was a single parent and we were all very close. Marvin was a regular guy, pretty much the same as you and I who loved Michael Jackson, Eminem, a pint of Cider and and his beloved Roll Ups. He was six years older than me and a lot of fun to be around. He had learning difficulties and was therefore very childlike in the way that he acted and thought but we all loved him very much.

Marvin was a free spirit and often travelled to Todmorden to work, sometimes he would be gone for months and would simply turn up back at home when he felt like it. While he was in Todmorden he worked and boarded with a family called the Shackletons who sold fruit and veg.

One morning on the 2^nd February 2002 there was a knock on the door which changed our lives forever. Our lovely big brother had been stabbed 18 times at a house in Todmorden and was dead. He was just 28 years old. He wasn’t a perfect person, like me and you he was human and made mistakes but we loved him and now he was never coming back.

The story is that Marvin went to the house of a friend after they had been drinking and taking cocaine one evening. Marvin’s friend Geoffrey became paranoid because of the drugs and snuck up behind Marvin whilst he was watching television and stabbed him 18 times in the back. Marvin tried to run into the kitchen but never stood a chance against such a ferocious attack.

After a failed attempt to escape, Marvin collapsed and died on the kitchen floor. According to the forensic evidence it would have taken half an hour for his body to shut down. I only hope that he lost consciousness very quickly. Every single night before I go to sleep, I am plagued by thoughts of my brother lying cold and frightened on a strange floor just waiting to die. I wonder if he desperately thought that help would arrive, or if he thought about us, his family.

We’ll never know, and it tears me apart.

If I was to try describe how it feels to have someone that you love so much torn away from you in such a violent and cruel way it wouldn’t be possible. There are no words to describe that feeling. Even now I don’t feel settled, I have part of me that has been taken away and there will always be a hole in my heart that can never be fixed. It’s a horrible feeling and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

My Dad went to identify Marvin’s body and said that he looked like he was sleeping, I still refused to believe that it was him. I was so sure that there had been a mistake, I remember desperately hoping and praying that he would turn up somewhere and everyone would be amazed at the huge mistake that had been made. But obviously he never did.

After 2 weeks of tests and examinations we were allowed to bring my brother’s body back to Blackburn. Still sure that it had been a huge mistake, I remember walking in to the Funeral parlour to confirm the identity (to myself) once and for all of the person was led in that coffin. It was a sight that I will never forget, he was a very strange colour and his face looked strangely collapsed. Everything about him looked wrong, but it was him. There was no arguing with what was in front of my eyes it was definitely my brother. They said that because of the tests they’d had to run on his body and the length of time that he had been dead his body had started to deteriorate and that’s why he looked so odd.

That’s the last memory I have of my brother, glancing at his decomposing body just to make sure it was him.

After Marvin’s death our close knit family began to unravel. For the 3 weeks leading up to the funeral we were all on auto pilot. Planning the Funeral, consoling people and sorting out his belongings. It was when we were left to our own thought that the problems started.

Unable to cope with his grief my Dad, who already had a problem with alcohol hit the drink even harder. Three years after Marvin died my Dad also passed away, he literally drank himself into an early grave. He was consumed by grief and guilt because he felt that he hadn’t been there to protect his son. We are all plagued by guilt that we hadn’t done anything to protect him, even though we couldn’t possibly have known what was going to happen that night.

The death of Marvin hit us hard as a family, my brother turned to drugs and is now facing a lengthy prison sentence. My older sister never speaks about it, she finds it too difficult. I have lots of nightmares and spent years searching for an answer as to why Geoffrey stabbed my brother. I tried a counsellor to help me with my grief. As soon as she asked me my name I burst into tears and couldn’t speak for the rest of the session, I never went back because I found it too difficult to deal with.

The man who killed my brother is currently serving a life sentence in prison; I wrote to him in Prison a few years ago and begged him to tell me why he killed my brother. I told him about my nightmares and my Father’s death and the pain of losing Marvin and the effect his actions had had on my family. The only explanation that he could provide was that he was so full of drink and drugs that his judgment was clouded. It was because of drugs and drink that my brother was dead.

They both put themselves in a dangerous situation and now everyone was paying the price for it. Two families lost their sons and their brothers that night, his family are suffering because he is wasting his life in a prison cell and ours because we lost our brother. There are so many lives affected by the decisions that we make and because of the choices made on that awful night on the 1st February our lives will never be the same again.

Review of the Rocks Off 7 Speed Mona

 

Its Rocks Off Week at Voluptasse this week so it’s only fitting that we kick off with a review of one of their newest products, the Rocks Off 7 Speed Mona.  The Mona is available from the Rocks Off Website and retails at a very reasonable £14.99.

This beautiful Vibrator comes boxed and sitting on a soft velvet case which gave it an expensive and luxurious feel. It arrived discreetly packaged and also comes in a white sleeve so if it is ever opened by accident it isn’t immediately apparent what’s inside the package.

Once opened, the RO Mona is a very pretty bullet vibrator. It’s a hot pink colour with an amazing glittery surface that is perfect for a lover of anything pink and girly (like me!). The appearance of the Mona is that it is similar to a bullet but longer, thicker and sleeker.  It measures approximately 10 cm in length so it’s still quite a petite product and easy to store away from prying eyes.

The RO-Mona is made from a tough plastic material that is free from phthalates and completely body safe. It is also 100% waterproof and to illustrate this, I have tried out the RO Mona in the bath and shower and was pleased to see that it functions perfectly in both and neither affected the beautiful exterior of the Mona. No flaking or chipping of the glittery surface and it stayed in perfect working order.

The longer, thicker design is perfect for use by a partner during sex as it make is easier to reach the clitoris during a variety of different positions. Review of the Pink SPUNK Lube Hybrid Lubricant

Spunk Lube! The most inappropriately named lube on the market but totally unforgettable.

 

 

Created by the lovely and hardworking Str8cam he works tirelessly to promote this award winning Lubricant with many amazing features namely:

After kindly sending me 3 bottles of Spunk lube to try I decided that being the girly girl that I am I wanted to try the Spunk Lube Pink first. I loved the bright pink colour of the product and because it is part water and part silicone based it won’t dry up as easily as other water based lubricants and can even be used in the bath or shower as it won’t break down with water.

To start with I decided to look at the Spunk Lube Website, it’s a great site filled with useful information, customer testimonials and even an area to ask questions. I found it easy to navigate and was impressed by the level of customer friendly information available. It’s a very masculine site by its appearance so it would be nice to see an area dedicated to females at some time. Especially with the addition of a girly pink lubricant.

The items arrived discreetly packaged and were undamaged from their journey from the States. My first impression of the Spunk Lube Pink was that it was nicely packaged in a plastic bottle with a plastic lid that you press to open, easy and straightforward. The bottle contains 236 ml of lubricant and is approximately 7.5 inches tall. Because of the distinct name it is something that would need to be stored out of sight because it is prominently written on the bottle but that isn’t a problem as most of my collection is kept out of sight anyway.

There is no distinct smell to the lube and it is very easy to pour out, it’s very thick and as an experiment I poured the Lube into a tub and turned it upside down and it did not move at all! The lube also reactivates when it comes into contact with bodily fluids such as sweat and saliva. Water will also cause the Lube to reactivate. This sounds good as it will last longer and is therefore a cost effective option when purchasing a lubricant.

When using this lube is super slippery and luxuriously thick, it provided the perfect amount of lubricant without being too messy. There was no taste to the lube either so it can be used when performing oral sex without worries about a nasty after taste. There was no stickiness or mess afterwards and it soaks nicely into the skin leaving it really soft.

A couple of large squirts were used to get started and there was no need to reapply at all. It lasted throughout a whole session. Sexual intercourse with a good lubricant always lasts longer because of the loss of friction and it was a great addition to our foreplay. Spunk Lube can also be used during masturbation as it is safe to use with all kinds of toys, a fact that I plan to take advantage of.

The other half enjoyed using it and enjoyed all the extra attention he received whilst we were giving it a test run. He enjoyed using it with me and liked the silky consistency of the product.

Voluptasse So Far...

So, what’s it REALLY like to run an online Sex Business in the 21^st Century. Here are my secrets...

 

 

Well I promised a blow-by-blow account of running Voluptasse and so far I probably haven’t delivered what I promised. I have gossiped about everything else from the pelvic floor to the Karezza technique. I have talked far too much about my Sex life and chatted endlessly about the perks of using Sex Toys but what do you really know about Voluptasse?

 

 

Well Voluptasse was founded by me, Melissa MacFarlane, inJune 2011. At the time I was a single Mum of 4 young children and had been made redundant from the same company for a second time. It’s something that I had been interested in starting for a while but had been too frightened of giving up my job. After gaining some experience with a rival company (naughty, I know) I discovered that there were gaps in the service they were providing and set out to do something a little different. I wanted parties where men were welcome and I wanted to reach out to the gay market more (which is proving quite tough!). I also wanted to provide themed parties for my customers so that every party was different. These themes change all the time depending on what's fashionable at the moment.

However,I had no experience with computers other than Microsoft Word and my background was Law (that explains the wordy sentences and rambling!). It was a Challenge, but I do relish a good challenge. I still work full time in addition to running the company but I do hope Voluptasse will take off enough so I can work from home and be with the kids too. That’s the plan…

 

Setting the Company up was never difficult and the launch was amazing. I bought the stock and along with a friend of mine who owns a local Gym we organised a Lingerie Charity Fashion Show on Halloween. Because it was for Charity it never cost a penny. All raffle prizes, props, services from the dancers, make up artists and models were donated to the cause and it gained Voluptasse so much Press attention that it was an amazing start. We raised £700 for our local Hospice so it was a hugely successful event and Voluptasse was officially launched to the public.

I am a strong advocate of charitable giving and Voluptasse regularly finds ways to give to charity. During Christmas of 2012 I organised a collection of gifts for our local women’s refuge. I am also planning something for the refuge this Valentine’s, Easter and again at Christmas. It’s importantto give back to the community, I count my blessings everyday.

My second big break came with Lord Sugar himself, after sending him a Tweet asking him to help promote my business I received a phone call from a lady from the Huffington Post. Lord Sugar had retweeted Voluptasse to over 1,000,000 followers. I hadn’t anticipated an actual answer and sadly the attention crashed the Voluptasse website and a lot of people couldn’t get on! Rookie mistake! My web hosting service was completely inadequate and I rapidly moved to a much better provider. I did receive some national press attention so all was not lost, I also gained my first experience of Internet Trolls. I have no idea why they write the things that they do? I was also nominated for a Mumpreneur award and featured in the Mumpreneur Magazine. Its been a great year! 

Since my infamous retweet, the company has had its ups and downs. I have busy periods and very quiet periods but my main problem is advertising Voluptasse. My friends have been a great help by reposting, retweeting and have even given me their Facebook passwords so i can update their accounts. In fact, even my ex husband has given me his password! I have tried competitions, regular facebook page updates, tweeting till I can’t move my fingers, leaflets, magazine coverage, constantly updating my range to fit current trends and blogging, writing Erotica, book clubs and reviewing for myself and other companies too and I’m still battling hard against the larger companies. It’s a tough old world out there! I’m not complaining though, I truly love every minute of it!

 

There are a lot of negative attitudes towards Sex Toy Companies out there. I’ve had charitable donations rejected (vouchers) and been turned away from local markets who fear I may started running wild, brandishing Rampant Rabbits and scaring the young children with my products (I would have only displayed the classy lingerie, I’m not an idiot). There are also people who will book you for a party with no intention of buying, but to steal idea’s and report back to rivals or simply just to entertain their friends. I've had letters threatening to sue me over my usage of the term 'Fifty Shades', its been anything but boring!

I’ve had it all, but that’s life. It’s the reality of running a company; it doesn’t ruin my enjoyment but gives me so much more satisfaction when things do go the way I planned them to.

We ( I don’t know why I say ‘we’ it is just me…) started our Voluptasse Forum which I am currently working on improving by building up more usage. It’s a place where my customers (and potential customers) can chat and ask questions and just have a friendly place to go and meet like-minded individuals. The Forum has been running for a few months and has over 600 members but not regular updaters though which is something that I need to work on. I have come a long way though, I now know what an Avatar is and I can add a banner onto my Blog so every day I continue to learn.

Despite the difficulties, I do love my job. I love the thrill of the chase and the feeling I get from reading another email thanking me for the service that I’ve provided, or a happy customer who is pleased with their item. I also sell on Ebay too and Amazon but tend toget thrown off a lot because they object to the products that I sell.

I get a ‘buzz’(sorry) from helping ladies find the right vibrator for them and I am an endless fountain of useful (or useless) vibrator trivia. I am lucky that I am doing something that I love and I have met so many great friends along the way both in person and online. I have been helped endlessly by my Twitter friends, from constructive criticism to a listening ear when ive had a tough day. It’s a lovely community and i love being a part of it. My husband has been invaluable, without his help everything would have been doubly as hard. He is an amazing man, but don't tell him I said that!

 

So what’s in store for Voluptasse in 2013?

I will continueto hunt for a marketing strategy that works and look at new ways to improve Voluptasse. Voluptasse will become increasingly successful and I will seek to gain more home parties, at least two a week. I need to be realistic with my goals, I have my five year plan and everything is going according to that plan  (give or take a year) but I will not set myself up for a fall by trying to hit impossible goals. Tenacity is the key.

I will increase my usage of the Forum and look to increase my following on all social networking sites. I will blog more regularly, review products more regularly and read more Erotica. I want one of my short stories published and I am in the throes of organising a weapons amnesty in my local area in memory of my Brother who was sadly killed in 2002 at the hands of another person, hence the amnesty. In my quest to Blog more regularly I will be keeping you fully updated on my progress.

I was so pleased to receive the Screaming O’s Studio Collection simply because I am a busy Mum of 5 young children and like a lot of other Mum’s out there I have a fear that the children will discover my collection and broadcast their findings to any judgmental grown up that they come across. As the owner of a Sex Toy business you can still only get away with so much and I do like to keep my personal collection close to hand.

My best friend’s 4 children stumbled across her toy stash recently and decided to form a parade down the stairs waving her Rampant Rabbit and other assorted Vibrators whilst also wearing her Police & Nurses outfits and her under bed restraints at a family gathering recently, so Sex Toys cleverly disguised as high end cosmetic items sound ideal to me!

The Collection arrived discreetly packaged and once opened is kept in a black cardboard box with the products featured on the front. It looked stylish and very well put together and gave a full description of the items that the Studio Collection contained. The package contained a see through plastic case very similar to a makeup bag for you to keep your products in on a day to day basis.

All the Vibrating products in the Studio Collection are made using Silicone and are both Latex and Phthalate free. Each product comes with at least 160 minutes of battery power and are 100% Waterproof for fun in the bath or shower. All toys can be cleaned using soap and water or standard toy cleaner. From my research I can see that each product is available individually in addition to being available as a Collection.

Lipstick Vibrator

 

The Lipstick Vibrator is an extremely discreet product, and arguably the most discreet of all the Collection. It is the same size, shape and weight as a genuine Lipstick and therefore not immediately noticeable as a Vibrator. To illustrate this, I used my Mother-In –Law and Husband as testers by leaving it at the table whilst we had an hour long conversation and not an eyelid was batted and no questions were asked.  They are both the kind of people that WOULD mention something had they realised.

All that was required to get the Lipstick working was a simple unscrewing of the bottom half of the Lipstick so you reach that battery compartment where there is a small pull out tag between the batteries. It was very easy to get started which was pleasing!

Because the Lipstick is 100% Waterproof I wanted to do something different and use it in the Shower and see how it withstood the water. I placed it on the side of the shower where it hits the spray for at least ten minutes and then switched it on. It sprang to life immediately so it’s definitely waterproof, it was quite soaked!

The Lipstick boasts 4 different settings – Low, Medium, High and Tease which is a pulsing vibration. I started using the Lipstick on the Low setting with the aim to increasing to the higher setting during usage. However, I never got as far as that… even on a low setting the vibration is incredibly powerful and it took seconds to achieve the desired result. Despite the strength of the vibration it wasn’t too loud and I would feel quite comfortable using this if there were other people in the house.

Overall I was really impressed with the Lipstick, it an extremely high quality product that looks amazing and authentic, is durable and offers quiet but powerful stimulation.

Make Up BrushVibrator

 



The Studio Collection Make-up brush has soft silicone bristles which promise to tickle, tease and please… and it doesn’t disappoint!

The brush isn’t as discreet as the Lipstick but it was my favourite out of all the Collection because the pressure isn’t as direct as it is with other items. Because of this, there is time to tease and play and it’s a much gentler route to an orgasm. I found that I preferred this vibrator on the tease setting and gradually increasing the power as I went along. I loved it!

It is also quite discreet to use and I would do so comfortably with others in the house.

 

Mascara Wand Vibrator

This is another powerful bullet vibrator; the silicone head boasts a direct and powerful tip for amazing clitoral stimulation and soft bumpy nodules on the wand to decrease the pressure and tease your way to orgasm.

I liked this on the lower settings and whilst using the cooling O balm. On the higher settings the tip very quickly made me a little sensitive. However, by turning it down a notch onto the medium settings it was much more pleasurable to use.

It was lovely to use with the cooling balm because the nodules are much harder than the silicone bristles on the Make- Up Brush and they give amazing sensations when stroked gently against the clitoris. The balm increases sensitivity of the area and causes a delicious tingle which compliments the thicker part of the wand very well.

Sexy SecretsCompact

I absolutely adored this! A mirror with a secretly stashed bullet inside! I felt very much the female equivalent of James Bond with this bad boy. It can be taken on a night out or just casually placed in your handbag for days when you may be caught short. The bullet itself is small but very powerful and also comes with 3 spare batteries. I really liked this. Very impressive!

Cooling O Balm

Cleverly disguised as an eye shadow, this balm has a cool and minty offering which promises a cooling and tingling sensation for both men and women.

The balm itself was a lot softer than the warming balm and was therefore easier to apply. Because I used more, the tingly sensation was really strong and feels amazing when your partner blows against it. The tingly feeling was not uncomfortable at all and lasted for well over ten minutes. There is no unpleasant taste with the balm and its something that I would definitely use again. It was nice to use with the Mascara Wand and also the Make Up brush because it increases sensitivity to the area and they were the best vibrators for teasing.

O Balm Warming Sensations

Also disguised as an eye shadow, this product offers the most divine cinnamon smell that even smells warming.  It truly is delicious!

Made from herbal materials, this paraben and petroleum free balm can be applied to lips or body parts to create an instantly warming sensation. I used this on both my lips and nipples loved the smell of cinnamon which subsequently followed me around. I didn’t feel any strong warming sensations but I did use it quite sparingly so the sensation may depend on how much you use. As a lip balm it worked very well, there was no horrible taste to it and I really loved the cinnamon smell. I would definitely use it again; I really liked this product as a lip balm and the small is incredibly addictive.

O Balm Climax Crème

The O Balm Climax Crème comes discreetly packaged as a lip balm and is a thick crème that offers deliciously tingly sensations. The instructions require a pearl sized amount of the crème to be rubbed into the genitals for 3 minutes.

To be honest I defy anyone to try this without having an orgasm! There is an immediate tingling sensation as soon as the crème is applied and I can’t say whether it’s the crème or 3 minutes of constant attention in the area but I do experience strong and powerful orgasms when I use it. Because it’s such a thick crème is no mess and it rubs in very well. Also, because it is made from high quality natural and glycerine free materials I have experienced no irritation from using it.

Batteries

 

There are also two blisters containing six batteries EACH that come with the Complete Studio Collection. The Verdict

I absolutely adore the Screaming O Studio Collection. The vibrators are all made from body safe materials and are of the high quality that I have come to expect from the Screaming O Company.

I love that the packaging of the vibrators is discreet and each item brings something completely individual to the collection so it’s really versatile. The balms and crème are all made from natural ingredients and safe to use so I can do so with confidence and no fear of nasty side effects.
